Enrica Viparelli

Enrica Viparelli received her doctorate in 2008 at the University of Naples Federico II, Italy, and was a post-doctoral researcher at the Hydrosystems Laboratory, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from January 2008 to December 2011. She was hired as assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of South Carolina in January 2012 and was promoted to professor in January 2023. Her research interests are on modeling transport, erosion and deposition of non-uniform sediments in fluvial, coastal and submarine settings.

  • Role of bed level variability on tracer dispersal in an equilibrium bed

Modeling problems in which movement of individual grains plays an important role, such as tracer dispersal and the emplacement of grain fabrics remain challenging. An analytical solution describing the streamwise and vertical dispersal of tracers in an equilibrium bed of uniform sediment was derived with a vertically continuous, morphodynamic approach and tested against laboratory and […]
